IMD report on competitiveness : government must urgently tackle real priorities

Swiss management school IMD has once again released the results of its World Competitiveness Yearbook. The WCY ranks 55 countries by their overall competitiveness, using 20 topic areas grouped into four main clusters (economic performance, government efficiency, business efficiency and infrastructure). Belgium is in 24th place, up one spot compared to 2007. [Read more]
FEB and PwC on their Total Tax Contribution study : Belgian companies burdened by payint and collecting taxes

FEB and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) have recorded all compulsory statutory levies (taxes and social security contributions) companies in Belgium either pay or collect on behalf of the authorities (all levels) in Belgium’s first Total Tax Contribution report, which was drawn up using the international method devised by PwC. Benelux business community concerned about EU climate proposals

Business federations FEB (Belgium), Fedil (Luxembourg) and VNO-NCW (The Netherlands) are opposed to the auctioning of emission allowances for energy-intensive industry in their countries. Auctions are not necessary to achieve greenhouse gas reduction targets and will place an additional burden on the industry in question, seriously jeopardising its survival in the Benelux countries. Allocation of European renewable energy efforts : Belgium taken to the cleaner's

At the European Council meeting on 8 and 9 March 2007, European leaders pledged to have renewable energies account for a compulsory 20% of the EU's total energy consumption by 2020. The key is to invest in renewable power generation where those investments are most efficient and therefore the least expensive, while at the same time making sure to achieve Europe's goal. FEB analyses implementation of European growth strategy: Belgium's catching up slightly, but it's not enough

InFocus Lisbon, FEB looks at the progress that Belgium and the other EU Member States have made in implementing the Lisbon strategy, the EU's plan to create more growth and more jobs in Europe. This year, Belgium scores 46.7% (compared with 45.2% in 2006) and, like last year, takes 15th place (now out of 27). This represents a general improvement in our standing, but not enough to give us a higher ranking. [Read more]

Sixth FEB-InSites "e-trends in business" survey: Innovation remains management's main concern

FEB and the specialist research bureau InSites have now completed the sixth survey of electronic trends (e-trends) in Belgian businesses. Collaboration with IBM Global Business Services on the substantially updated survey has resulted in a new, strategic section. From now on, managers in companies with over 100 employees will be asked about the strategic importance they attribute to innovation and the effective use of the various e-business technologies at their disposal for business purposes (like websites, an extranet portal, e-mail marketing, e-learning, and so on). Administrative simplification by and for businesses: Kinepolis – Quick Sensor wins the first Kafka Award

In late June 2006, the Department for Administrative Simplification, FEB, Microsoft and KPMG Advisory launched the Kafka Award, a competition to find the company that has done the best job combating internal bureaucracy. Any company is eligible, provided it has simplified administrative formalities for customers, suppliers and/or personnel, making it easier to do business. [Read more]

Belgian listed companies take position on the consolidation process of securites exchanges

Belgian companies have consistently supported the cross-border consolidation of the Securities Exchanges. In particular, they have fully supported the integration of Brussels Exchanges into Euronext, as a founding member of the first cross-border exchange in Europe.
