Companies in Belgium make considerable efforts to preserve and enhance the environment. FEB -- together with the regional employers' organisations -- monitors national and European environmental issues. Environment awards are issued in order to encourage companies to develop these avenues further. Companies need energy for their business activities, yet they seek to use their energy as rationally as possible. The liberalisation of the gas and electricity market, the challenges of security of supply and climate change have all brought many changes in their wake; in fact, things are still changing. In a context of energy dependency, the cost of this 'resource' is a key factor. FEB is actively involved in debates on energy within various bodies.

Greening the Economy: New Energy for Business is the highly topical theme of the sixth European Business Summit, co-organised by FEB and BUSINESSEUROPE. The European Commission recently announced its energy and climate package, which sets out very ambitious objectives for 2020. Turning climate ambition into reality is a major challenge to European businesses, and especially to Belgian companies, which are already eco-efficiency leaders. To gain a better insight into how our businesses can cope with the climate challenge and to see what kind of supporting role policy can play, FEB commissioned INSEAD, the international business school, to carry out a research project.
