Mobility: the fast track to prosperity

The mobility of goods and people is essential for the proper functioning of our society. Goods and services can be exchanged thanks to well coordinated and fine-tuned mobility, which enables our companies to purchase raw materials and other goods and deliver their products. Mobility also gives citizens access to those goods and services and enables them to work, learn, engage in leisure activities, exchange ideas and so on. In other words, the importance of mobility cannot be underestimated. Today, Belgium is one of the three most attractive places in Europe for the development of transport businesses.

For FEB, mobility must enable companies to have efficient, competitive and reliable access to their raw materials and to deliver their goods and services in an equally efficient, competitive and reliable manner. We must not forget that good mobility is an important factor supporting a country’s overall resilience.

It’s all about the data – which is why FEB, in collaboration with sectoral federation FEBIACdeveloped the Belgian Mobility Dashboard (BMD), a platform displaying critical mobility indicators that is available to everyone. Anyone can use the BMD to track mobility data over a given period, making it possible to see trends, such as traffic jams. The BMD helps policymakers, entrepreneurs, employees and any other interested parties to become aware of the current situation and enables them to deploy the appropriate leverage to achieve smooth, green and multimodal mobility.

For FEB, achieving good mobility consists of a number of crucial elements that are described in the Strategy and action plan for better mobility (in French) and the Horizon2030.be plan for the future:

  • Encouraging public-private partnerships to finance infrastructure
  • Implementing the Rail Roadmap 2030: more freight transport by rail thanks to smart and multimodal  transport system
  • Rolling out smart road charges
